Can I try the second version of the application for free at Serif?

Yes. The second edition of the application is available for free testing. Serif provides a 30-day free trial and a universal license for all programs, allowing you to test them all out simultaneously and make use of all of their capabilities.

What about the refund policy at Serif?

You have 14 days from the date of delivery to return the item for a complete refund if you are unhappy with the product for any reason. To start the return procedure, send an email to Serif with your name, order number, and reason for returning the item. A return label for the tangible item will be emailed to you for printing if you decide to return it. On request, they can give you physical labels if you don't have a printer. Within a few days of receiving the returned items, they will arrange a reimbursement.
